You are invited to take a tour of the makerspace, get to know some of our maker community, and discover the great equipment you can access with a membership. Members are invited to join in the fun and meet area leads and board team to learn about a highlighted area of making at SHAK.

Beginner Marble Making

Come learn the fun and exciting art of marble making in this interactive class. While learning the basics of glass torchwork and marble making, students will create their own marble. Students will learn how to create marbles using ribbons of glass twisted together.

Students must be at 12 years or older. Any students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. (If the adult plans to help the minor, but not create their own marbles they do not need to pay.)

Intro to Kinusaiga Class

Sleepy Dragon

Curious about the art of Kinusaiga? Kinusaiga is a Japanese art form that uses fabric pieces tucked into a base (no sewing!) to create beautiful, textured designs.

In this beginner-friendly class, led by Katelyn from The Copper Snail, each student will learn the basics and create their own 4x6 Sleepy Dragon to take home. Please note: Framing will need to be done outside the class.

All materials will be provided, but you're welcome to brin your own fabric scraps if you'd like to personalize your piece. (Thinner fabric works best!)

Wednesday, September 16th

NON-SHAK Members: $35

This class is open to adults, 16+ (minors must have adult supervision, but if the adult is not making their own project then they do not have to pay) and is restricted to 15 students per class.

A Beginner Friendly Halloween Stained Glass Workshop

Get into the spooky spirit while learning the art of stained glass!

In this 4-hour beginner-friendly workshop, you'll learn the basic skills and techniques of stained glass while creating your own one-of-a-kind Halloween decoration. Choose from a variety of spooky designs, such as pumpkins, ghosts, spiderwebs, bloody knives, alien spaceships, and more!

This class is designed for students with little to no stained glass experience, but all skill levels are welcome. If you fall in love with stained glass (and we think you might!), you'll leave with the foundational skills needed to continue practicing on your own or move on to more challenging SHAK stained glass workshops.

Non-SHAK Members — $62.50/person

Ages & Minor Participants

Students ages 12 and older are welcome.

Minors must be accompanied by an adult who is willing to assist as needed. An adult attending only to assist a minor may attend at no charge. Adults who would like to create their own stained glass piece must register and pay as a student.

What to Wear & Bring

Closed-toe shoes are REQUIRED. Students who arrive without closed-toe shoes will not be permitted to participate.

Prescription or reading glasses are recommended for anyone who needs them for close-up work.

SHAK provides shared safety glasses and protective gloves. You're welcome to bring your own safety glasses and thick gardening or safety gloves if you prefer. Thin plastic gloves are not suitable for stained glass work.

Stained Glass Spider Web

2-Day Workshop

Previous stained glass students are encouraged to come practice your skills while creating a fun, one-of-a-kind spider web in this 2-day class.

All supplies are provided, BUT students are welcome to bring their own materials to create a spider to go on their web if they want a mixed media spider. Possibilities are endless, but materials can include: beads, broaches/pendants, buttons, small doll/toy animal heads, locket sized picture frames, etc.

Students MUST attend both Part 1 & Part 2 of the workshop.

Part 1: Sunday, October 4th

2:00-6:00pm

Part 2: Sunday, October 18th

2:00-6:00pm

SHAK Members- $90/per person

($50 deposit to register & $40 due on day of class)

Non-SHAK Members- $112.50/per person

($62.50 deposit to register & $50 due on day of class)

Prescription glasses or reading glasses are recommended for those with vision needs but are not required.

Students may bring their own safety glasses and gardening or safety gloves (thick, protective gloves—thin plastic gloves are not permitted). These items are optional and only necessary if you prefer not to use the shared safety equipment provided. Safety glasses and gloves are available at most home improvement stores.

Have some experience creating beautiful works of art using the Japanese art form of Kinusaiga? This intermediate class is the perfect opportunity to build on your skills while creating a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind pumpkin just in time for the autumn season!
